The following quote by Thomas J. Watson is one I’ve really started to live by in business. In fact, I think it should be a guiding light for all business owners.
“To be successful, you have to have your heart in your business and your business in your heart.”
Isn’t that something to think about?!
To experience lasting success, your business has to become a part of your heart. Otherwise, you just do it to get by, which means you want to jump ship when it’s doing poorly and you want to stay for the ride when all is well . It’s like being a fair weather baseball fan, but more like a fair weather business fan, haha.
When your business holds a deep place in your heart, it doesn’t matter if it’s doing poorly or flourishing, you’re committed to it.
Commitment brings success. And the success you have is defined by your measures, even though monetary success is always important for a business.
When you put your heart and soul into your business, it becomes personal. It’s filled to capacity with YOU--your passion, ambition, purpose, and effort. The thought of it failing or not accomplishing its vision and mission is like the thought of having a piece of you die.
When your heart is in your business and your business in your heart, you’ll do what it takes to make it successful, because your very vision and heart are invested.
Your business becomes like your own flesh and blood. You watch out for it, nurture it, and whip it into shape when you need to (LOL).
Let’s keep pouring our hearts into our business and carve out a special place in our hearts for our businesses, so we can watch them succeed on our terms.
