It’s a pleasure for me to welcome Melina Valerio to the blog today and share with you a recent interview I did with her.
Melina is the owner and lead planner at Starry Eyed Events - a boutique wedding planning and event decor company in Las Vegas, Nevada. Her fun-loving and experienced team travels between San Diego and Las Vegas for weddings, working with both local and destination clients.
Melina’s visiting the blog today to share her insights about planning a styled wedding shoot. For those of you who aren’t familiar with what a styled wedding photoshoot is, they’re a big hit in the wedding industry.
We’ll explain exactly what they are and how they help wedding industry creatives (from designers to photographers to wedding rental companies and more) elevate their business. Plus, Melina shares some awesome styled shoot tips.
Alright, here’s Melina:
What are styled shoots?
Styled shoots are a wonderful excuse to collaborate with other vendors to create a faux wedding or any other celebration.
Who do you work with? Do you have a team of vendors?
It's always great to meet new vendors but I have met a few vendors that I LOVE working with!
How many styled shoots do you try to do?
While styled shoots are so much fun they are A LOT of work so I try to only do 2-3 a year.
Do your styled shoots become published? If so, where?
Yes, usually they become published. The last feature was in Wedding Chicks.
Do you have a favorite styled shoot so far? If so, tell us about it...
Yes! We did a styled shoot at Vigils BBQ on the Las Vegas strip that was incredible. We created a huge 6x7ft white backdrop covered in realistic florals for the end a wedding king table. Floral designer, Mylo Fleur Floral Designs, created a long lush centerpiece down the wedding table that ended right at the backdrop. The entire table was lit up by candlelight- so romantic!
Do you have a process when putting on styled shoots?
Yes, I look for creative vendors that are not afraid to try something out of the box. When you have a team that can work together off each other ideas is when the magic happens.
Do you have any advice for other vendors if they are wanting to put together a styled shoot?
Find a good location, have plenty of time to plan ahead, have a shared Pinterest board with all the vendors and prepare a list of the shots you absolutely need if you are entering the photos to a blog.
Where do you get your inspiration?
Life! Whenever I need inspiration I try to visit some of my favorite places and eventually a new idea will come to me.
Styled wedding shoots are a great way to network with vendors, get beautiful shots to use for your website, brochures, social media accounts, and more. They’re also a great way to gain exposure and get your work featured on wedding industry blogs and other vendor’s websites.
As a wedding invitation and wedding stationery designer, I love featuring my work in styled shoots. There’s nothing quite like seeing an invitation you designed beautifully showcased in a magazine or popular online wedding blog.
If you’re looking for a wedding invitation suite that is “styled shoot” worthy for your wedding or want to partner with a designer for the invitation suite for an upcoming styled shoot, I’d love to help.
